Andreas's shadow on an outback road

Solo. Unassisted. Always moving.

What is handcycling?

A bike you power with your arms. A life you power with your will.

A handcycle is a three-wheeled recumbent bicycle powered entirely by arm cranking. For paraplegics, it's both a mobility tool and an athletic machine.

Andreas rides long-distance routes solo and unassisted. That means no support vehicle, no crew, no backup. Just a handcycle, a trailer carrying all gear, a wheelchair strapped to the back, and the road ahead.

He camps in small towns, sleeps in a tent, and covers up to 100km a day through Australian outback heat and European mountain passes alike.

The setup

Everything fits on a handcycle and a trailer.

The full kit: handcycle, tow trailer, camping gear, food supplies, tools, spare parts, wheelchair, and solar charging. Everything needed for weeks on the road, self-contained.

No backup vehicle. No sag wagon. If something breaks, Andreas fixes it. If somewhere is too remote, he rides through it. That's the whole point.

The YouTube channel at Extreme Rolling documents the journeys in full, including the breakdowns, the beautiful days, and everything in between.

Fundraising

Every kilometre raises money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The RFDS provides critical medical care to Australians living in remote areas, people who would otherwise have no access to doctors or hospitals. Andreas has been the highest individual fundraiser nationally for the Oceans to Outback fundraiser.

You can support the rides as a micro sponsor or a major sponsor. Every dollar counts when you're trying to get a flying doctor to someone 500km from the nearest hospital.
